The Empowering Women in Information Technology Program

Get Involved in Mentoring Women Engineers who are in the ICT Sector!

Our Goals:

This program has been developed to support the empowerment of Internationally Educated Women Engineers in order to overcome barriers and impediments to entering and advancing in the Ottawa ICT (Information Communication Technology) sector. This, along with providing support and building confidence to these ladies to be successful! Our Program: EWIT (Empowering Women in Information Technology) EWIT is a program dedicated for women in engineering. This program supports the empowerment of Internationally Educated Women Engineers in order to overcome barriers that prevent them from entering and advancing in the Ottawa ICT (Information Communication Technology) sector. Our program launches this October. We are currently looking for mentors to empower our women by giving the knowledge and resources to help them be successful!

Why we need your help:

Many Internationally Educated Professional (IEP) women come to Canada with extensive work experience in the High Tech sector in their home countries. These highly skilled women are in great demand in the Ottawa ICT market. While there are numerous employment support services available to help professional newcomer women advance in their careers, familial and social constraints make it difficult for some women to access training and development services. As such, many ITP women cannot effectively enter or advance in the Ottawa ICT workforce.

Who will you be mentoring?

Internationally Educated Professional women, residing in Ottawa who want to find gainful employment, or further develop their career in the Ottawa ICT sector.

What we need from you:

The commitment would be about 2 hours per month for 3 months. That means only 6 hours total. You can chat over email, meet for coffee, or chat over skype! There would be one important event called Speed Mentoring, held for 1.5 hours. Mentors can meet all the participants in the program and decide on who they would like to be matched with. You can learn about their backgrounds, knowledge and diverse skillset.

EWIT Program Outline:

In-TAC will develop an interactive online training course that women can access from the comfort of their own home. The training will run across 5 weeks and will include the following components:

I. Work-Life Balance and Planning Your Career

This module will help participants address the personal and social impediments that they face. It will help them set out a clear roadmap for their Engineering career.

II. Career Coaching for ICT

This module will help participants develop their career transition plan for the Canadian market; covering aspects such as skills gap analysis, resume building, effective job searching, interview skills.

III. ICT Labour Market Intelligence

This module will give participants insight into the local ICT labour market with a focus on relevant technical/professional skills as they relate to current industry demands
