What you will need:
- Newspaper to lay down on a flat, hard surface (not required but suggested in order to prevent a big mess!)
- A two litre soda bottle (emptied out)
- 1 teaspoon of yeast
- 2 tablespoons of warm water
- A funnel (this again is to prevent a large mess!)
- 1/2 cup of hydrogen peroxide (must be at least 6%)
- Food colouring (not required but makes the experiment more fun!)
- Dishwashing soap
- A bowl
- A spoon
What you will need to do:
- Lay down your newspaper on a flat and hard surface
- Place the bottle down on the sheets of newspaper
- In your bowl, mix together your teaspoon of yeast and your two tablespoons of warm water (mix with a spoon until bubbles form)
- Using the funnel, pour the hydrogen peroxide into the empty soda bottle
- Next, you can add some food colouring into the bottle. In light of today’s date (Halloween 2014!) use some fun, spooky colours like orange, green, black
- Next, add a touch of dishwashing soap into the bottle
- Lastly, you will need to add the mixture of yeast and water from the bowl into the bottle (using a funnel will help)
Watch as your experiment comes to life as the substances mix together and rise up and out of the bottle!
