Entrepreneurship

The NSERC Chair for Women in Science and Engineering of Ontario supports initiatives encouraging entrepreneurship thinking and education, in particular for women engineering and computer science students to develop an entrepreneurial mind-set and competencies.

The Women Startup Network

The Women Startup Network offers support to aspiring women entrepreneurs, helping them achieve their full potential. Intended for University of Ottawa’s women engineering and computer science students, this program is based on peer mentorship, allowing each member to learn from a senior student mentor that is pursuing her own entrepreneurial project. Through weekly meetings, mentors will help their assigned mentees to develop their own entrepreneurial competencies while sharing resources available on campus and in the city.

The Centre for Entrepreneurship and Engineering Design (CEED)

Ceed offers university students education and work experience in the fields of engineering design and entrepreneurship that allows them to work on every step of the creation process, from design to fabrication, to testing out their own product. CEED also offers students the opportunity to work with industry in design, prototyping and commercialization of technologies.

The Difference Makers Program

The Difference Makers Program offers a range of workshops to University of Ottawa students in order to equip them to make a difference in the world. Aiming to foster innovation and creativity within the student community, the workshops are developed to deliver entrepreneurial training, while inspiring student to start their own social venture with the goal of solving current social issues.

Startup Garage

Startup Garage is an initiative of the University of Ottawa's Innovation Support Services which aims to support and mentor young entrepreneurs in the region of Ottawa. To help them improve their business, Startup Garage provides each participating startup with money, office space, mentorship and support, while allowing them to work full time on their project for three months over the summer.

Startup Grind

Startup Grind is a network of entrepreneurs who meet monthly to network, converse and hear relevant speakers, including founders, journalists and investors. It’s a community of people with ͞the smartest startup minds͟ in town. There are Startup Grind groups in both Ottawa and Toronto.

Startup Ottawa

Startup Ottawa is a gathering place for startup entrepreneurs that also offers a weekly email of relevant event happenings in Ottawa.

BusiWomen

BusiWomen is a Toronto-based networking group for women business owners and entrepreneurs.

Women’s Executive Network

The Women’s Executive Network (WXN) focuses on leadership, mentoring and networking with the aim of advancing women leaders. WXN offers events and networking across Canada, including Ottawa, Toronto and Mississauga.

Canadian Federation of Business and Professional Women

The Canadian Federation of Business and Professional Women (BPW Canada) is an extensive Canada-wide network of women in business, BPW aims to develop the leadership potential of its members.

Through outreach and professional development activities, research, partnerships, thought leadership and online initiatives, we work with industry and academia to educate on the value of diversity for innovation, to inspire women to thrive and to celebrate the contributions of women in science and engineering.
